Hong Kong - The Extra Dimensions
by Stephen Teo
Published by British Film Institute - 1997
Paperback - 255 pages - $25

Of the HK film books, this one is considered to be the most scholarly approach to HK film - at least of those in English. Teo covers the popular elements of HK cinema such as Jackie Chan and John Woo, but also investigates early HK film from the very first through the films of King Hu, Bruce Lee to the present. His book though analyzes it all with a perspective of Chinese history and how events at the time effected the films being made.

It is certainly not the easiest book to read and I would not recommend trying unless you have a real interest in HK film that goes beyond the popular action films. No pictures are included.
