Love is Love

Director: Tommy Leung
Year: 1990
Rating: 7.0

A different type of movie from Stephen Chow. The emphasis here is more drama/romance with a seasoning of comedy. Even the comedy here though is very subdued compared to his often slapstick antics.

The story revolves around the love between Chow and Sandra Ng. This is the first time I have come across Ng in a romantic role. With her fairly plain appearance she usually plays the best friend or a kind of loony type. Choosing Ng to play the role though makes the story more interesting as the two of them elope to HK to escape the wrath of Ng's father. Who wouldn't as the father is played by Shing Fui-On! In HK, Ng works as a taxi dancer & Chow goes to work in a company for a beautiful woman. The expected complications arise, but still a warm interesting departure for Chow. This is one of his nearly forgotten films.
